Includes (1) lb. Medium Jonah Crab Claws (Approx. 5-6 claws)
Jonah crab has sweet, delicate, and flaky meat, similar to Dungeness crab. It is commonly harvested off the U.S. East Coast, from Canada to the Carolinas. A close relative of the Dungeness crab, it is often used as an affordable alternative to Florida stone crab due to its similar appearance and claw meat. Jonah crab claws arrive fully cooked and frozen. Simply thaw and serve chilled for cold applications or heat gently for hot dishes. They can remain frozen for up to six months. Once thawed, crab claws stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two days.
Frozen crab claws must be thawed before serving. Thawing properly helps maintain their sweet flavor and firm texture. Here’s the best way to do it: Place the frozen Jonah crab claws in a covered container or wrap them in a damp paper towel. Put them in the refrigerator for 12-18 hours or overnight. Once thawed, serve chilled or reheat if desired. If you prefer to serve them hot, thawed crab claws can be boiled following these steps: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the pre-cooked claws and let them warm for 3-5 minutes (do not overcook, or the meat will become tough). Remove and serve immediately with mustard sauce or melted butter.
